The self-employed program allows people to migrate to Canada as a self-employed person

To qualify for this program, interested applicants must have relevant experience in cultural activities or athletic, must be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada

What is relevant experience in this stream? 

Experience considered eligible under this stream has to be acquired at least two years in the past five years before the time application is received.

For Cultural activities: Two-one year periods of being self-employed in cultural activities or two-one year periods of participating at a world-class level in cultural activities or a combination of one year of cultural activities and a one year of participation at a world-class level in cultural activities

For Athletics: Two-One year periods of being self-employed in athletics or Two-one year periods of participating at a world class level in athletics or a combination of a one year of being self-employed in athletics and a one year of participating at a world-class level in athletics                                                                           

Will I be assessed under a points-based system?

The self-employed stream is a points-based system that assesses your Education, experience, age, ability in English and/or French, and adaptability.

Applicants will have to get a minimum of 35 points which will be graded based on your five selection factors.

What is the processing time? 

According to the IRCC, it may take up to 23 months to process your application.
